What is Melanin?

Melanin is a pigment that is majorly responsible for skin darkening. Though, few other substances also hold responsible for skin darkening, but the major role is played by Melanin. Melanin is produced within the skin cells called melanocytes. Both, light and dark complexion people have melanin which is in turn affected by 6 genes.

There are two types of melanin, Emumelanin and Pheomelanin. Emumelanin is black or brown color pigment, and Pheomelanin is red or yellow pigment. To some extent color of the skin is also affected by the presence fat present under the skin and carotene.

  2. Potato—It has the enzyme called catecholase which posses bleaching ability. Apply the potato paste on the face and massage it. The melanin pigment will reduce and thus lightening the skin tone.
  3. Lemon Juice—It is rich in vitamin C and is known for its acidic nature. Squeeze the lemon and mix the juice with one tablespoon honey and mix it. It lightens the dark spots, scars and regular applies of it on the face controls the melanin.
  4. Turmeric—It has the natural ability to glow the skin and make it fairer. Mix it with rose water for the best use and leave it for 15 minutes on the face and wash it with water.
  5. Cucumber—Slow, but effective measures to getting rid from pigmentation and moisturizing the skin. It is called skin rejuvenation and can be use mixing with lemon. Applies the juice on the face and wash it within 15 minutes. Repeat it regularly.

It’s gel can be used alone or mixed with ½ teaspoon to leave spotless skin with more freshness in the skin. Use it regularly for better use.

How to increase melanin?

  1. Vitamin A is responsible for increasing the level of melanin. It is the important nutrient responsible for restoring the melanin in the skin. It’s level can be raised by eating animal based food including whole or skim milk, chicken liver, eggs, beef, or cheese. Plants based vitamin A rich foods are carrots, apricot, tomatoes, red pepper, mango, and papaya.
  2. It is impossible to keep the track of eating the vitamin A enriched fruit regularly. So, daily supplement of vitamin A can be taken. Intake some fatty acid to help body to absorb the nutrient.
  3. Intake a regular supplement of vitamin C or eat fruits rich in vitamin C such as Kiwi, Oranges, Strawberries, mangoes, and grapefruit. If it is added with vitamin E, it works more efficiently. Vitamin E protects damage to melanocytes in the skin and neutralizes free radicals.
  4. Fatty acids food should be included in the food list. It improves the absorption of other essential vitamins in the body.
